Perot's third-party candidacy in 1992 ate substantially into Republican base voters, allowing the unpopular incumbent to win in a historic landslide. Despite Republican overtures, Perot remains committed to running yet another candidacy in 1996, hoping to build on his strong performance. Democrats remain cautiously optimistic about repeating their victory, and nominated two centrist Southerners as insurance.

I'm not sure about that. Several of the people who voted Perot in the poll (including me) voted Dukakis in '88.
