Both had personalities wholly unsuitable for executive power. I don't think anybody can deny that. I was once deluged for Godwinning Nixon - a comparison which was fairly stupid on my part, but I still can't deny that Nixon's behaviour in office was sickening and betrayed a rather overly-paranoid and tortured psyche. Carter is just living proof that you can't just dump somebody in office simply because they're "not a Washington insider" and expect them to magically fix things.
