Warner will win, but his prospects for being Hillary's VP took a major hit tonight.

To be fair, it's not really Warner's fault. He fought Gillespie hard all cycle. This could've been a Martha Coakley situation.

Yeah, but it doesn't really have to do with fault. His entire appeal was the bump in Virginia. If he can't even thump a loser like Gillespie easily, his popularity is clearly not what it once was.

Warner will have to have at least a 100,000 margin in NOVA. It doesn't help that he's losing Loudoun County.

Or 2014 is a wave year, and Gillespie is not as much of a loser as we once thought. If he continues as he has, I'm fully prepared to admit I was wrong about Gillespie and *gulp* the DC insiders were right.

NY Times and Politico shows about 74% of precincts reporting ...
but CNN also shows about the same amount of votes counted, but says 64% reporting.

That's a big difference .... why ?

What is a Martha Coakley situation here?  Warner is no Coakley and Gillespie is no Baker.

I meant the scenario of starting so far ahead only to lose (Coakley's first poll had her at 54-25). It's not an inherently Coakley situation, though Coakley certainly suffers from it.

Is Gillespie an establishment, or a tea partier?

Establishment -he's no Cuccinelli, if that's what you're worried about.

Gillespie is about as establishment as you get. If he does win, you guys basically have Senator Karl Rove.

Do you guys think Warner's moderate heroism turned off a lot of Democrats?

There is zero difference. The hard line uncompromising conservatives have been in charge in the GOP for decades. The whole concept of a "tea party" is a transparent marketing gimmick.
