Huge FF overall. Easily one of the best Update characters. Incredible pathos, you can't not feel for this man.

Well, he seems to be the only person in the house who really does anything.

Without him JJ no doubt really would be dead for example. He got the dog a house and seems to be the only one who walks it or spends any time with it... and he does this while working 40-60 hours a week at age 61.

Plus, he's very quotable. The "Oklahoma Wind" speech is classic.

Papa Bushie agreed with Bushie's decision to leave ONG ("Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith").  He bought Ameriplan health insurance from Bushie.  He encouraged him to move back to Oklahoma, which Bushie complied with, even though he wanted to stay in Utah.  Papa Bushie also sleeps in a different room from his wife, and the family doesn't seem to communicate much, as Bushie was telling his mother about wanting to move to Kenya, but "couldn't remember" if he told Papa.

A fictionalized Papa Bushie is featured in Episode 4 of "Hobo Orgy Guy & Blondie":

Well, I don't think anyone would argue that he's not a deeply flawed character. Every character on The Update is flawed but that's part of what makes them so interesting.

I definitely want to know more about the relationship (or lack of relationship) between Mama and Papa Bushie.

We don't really know the reason Bushie moved back to Oklahoma do we?  I am not buying the story, that Papa Bushie demanded Jeff return for what are seemingly irrational reasons destructive to the well being of his son. Something was rotten in Logan, and Papa decided it was time to cut the losses. That's my guess.

FF.

If you search for Papa Bushie, you get this pic of a Roderick Bushie.

Never thought Bushie actually existed as a family name.

FF, but he lacks the balls to stand up to his son and tell him enough is enough.

I'm sure Jeff gets that look from him all of the time.

Mr. Brown: "...customer service?"

Jeff: "No, daddy. I told you, I'm going to be an IT specialist."

Mr. Brown: "That's what you went to school for? Ain't no 'I' or 'T' in CAD, son."

Mrs. Brown: "Stop bothering the boy, dear. Jeff knows what he's doing, isn't that right?"

Mrs. Brown pinches Jeff's cheek and dumps more syrup on his pancakes.

Mr. Brown: "That mean he's gonna start payin' his own rent?"

Mrs. Brown: "Now that's enough of that."

Mr. Brown walks over to the coffee pot next to the stove.

Mrs. Brown: "You keep away from that stove!"

Mrs. Brown smacks Mr. Brown with a rolled up newspaper.

Mrs. Brown: "That right there's woman's work!"

Mr. Brown: "Dangit, woman! I'm just gettin' some more coffee!"

Mr. Brown pours out some coffee and sits back down in resignation and stares at his son from behind the newspaper.
