The 2013 crime statistics report for Austria shows that there were 52 murders last year.

Austria had 8.508.000 people on Jan. 1, 2014 - which means the murder rate was 0.6 per 100.000 people.

The number of murders is down from 82 in 2012, when the rate was 1.0/100.000 people.

No state figures available yet for 2013, only for 2012:

In Salzburg, there were 2 murders - for a rate of 0.4/100.000

For Cranberry's home state Tyrol: 12 murders - for a rate of 1.7/100.000

US posters can find their numbers here:

For non-US posters, use this UN source:

UN numbers are 0,8 in 2012 with 47 murders in a 5,6 mio. population.

EDIT: The UN numbers dont match Danish stats. It was 25 in 2012 (the lowest in 34 years with 0,4 per 100.00) and 35 in 2013. Maybe the UN numbers include violence resulting in the death of the victim?

Nebraska: The Most Dangerous Place In America To Be Black
Looks to be about 4/100000 for Nebraska, double that for Omaha.  But, as the article above shows, it's half gang related and mostly black people in a couple of zip codes the rest of us don't go to.  I do drive by it regularly as I've got a buddy that lives on the other side of it, but I don't go through the worst parts, try to avoid going at high crime time (but we both work mids so sometimes that's the only time to hang out).  Murder is at Austrian levels (if not lower) in my part of Omaha.

The UN figures are also not matching the official Austrian numbers for 2012:

The UN says 77 murders, while the Interior Ministry says 82.

I guess they use a slightly different methodology, yeah.

Last year we had 333 murders in NYC, 4 per 100,000.

My neighborhood had 19 murders,  12.4 per 100,000.  That's down from 105.4 per 100,000 in 1990.

Hometown: 0 known to law enforcement.
Michigan: 689 (7 per 100K)

The number for my hometown really isn't surprising.  It's known for having very low crime rates, and many people have moved in and around to escape the high levels of crime and violence in the surrounding cities.
