so what are some of the trippier things you've seen lately? i've been looking around for ideas for this project i started awhile ago. and i was browsing for public domain characters to breathe new life into. i  stumbled on some of fletcher hanks work... very underrated '30s comic book penciller/pulp illustrator. some of his stuff looks like a more psychedelic take on flash gordon:

What's really weird about Fletcher Hanks is his storylines, which are basically exercises in "Imagining the most sadistic punishment possible".

not that unusual for the '30s. a lot of the characters still around from that decade were toned down a lot, like batman

been doing a lot of creative stuff inspired by things in the public domain lately. to reiterate:

weirdly his work reminded me a bit of why i like anime now. loud color schemes, explosions, wild skin/hair colors, etc. of course the figures themselves are totally crude and western looking but really
