A U.S. Chamber of Commerce poll, conducted by Fabrizio, Lee & Associates last Wednesday and Thursday, also shows Senate race is a dead heat. Politico reported that the survey found Cory Gardner up by 2 points over Udall among likely voters, 44 percent to 42 percent. Libertarian Party candidate Gaylon Kent pulled 7 percent.

How does the L party break in Colorado?

Clearly, the candidate won't get 7%.  Who would benefit most from those votes?

Republicans would in most places, but in states with a lot of rich Dems like CO and VA, the libs are probably drawing more from Democrats.  If you look at VA-GOV in 2013 the libertarian pretty clearly hurt the Democrat more (who was relying on upscale voters even more than Obama has).

Colorado has a lot of libertarians who would sit out an election before voting Republican. But they'd sooner move to China before voting Democrat. The libertarians who vote Democrat aren't strong-identity libertarians usually. They are suburban, squishy GOP women or young voters, and they were instrumental in electing Obama. But Gardner can play for them in a way that no Republican has since Bill Owens. Ken Buck almost won without them. Imagine what Gardner can do with them.

The race may be close all the way to November. But don't be shocked if Gardner starts pulling away in July and August.
