Here's the story+video. He tried to ask Grimm about campaign finance, and this happened.

Could that be used against him? He won only 52-47 in 2012.

Well, it definitely suggests that the press is going to be probing further into his life in order to see if there is a pattern of aggression.  Knowing now that as a man in public service unable to keep a lid on these sorts of statements already once, it seems likely there would be other incidents.

Keep in mind Grimm's highlights of the last few years includes this incident, his major fundraiser being arrested, various campaign finance violations, having sex in a public bathroom, and having it revealed that he waved a gun in a man's face in a nightclub in the late 90's.

In other words, he is practically the embodiment of Staten Island's populace, and will probably never be defeated.

He was recently accused of having sex in a bathroom of a bar.

Well, Dems gained the Staten Island seat in 2008 when Vito Fossella was forced to retire (under scandal, too), before losing it in 2010. It's clearly leaning to the Republicans, but not a safe seat either.

A real Republican wouldn't bother to threaten.

Ah, I remember that thread.  All the Religious Right blue avatars were defending him (even calling him "awesome") and didn't understand how I called them hypocritical.

I didn't realize this when the news first broke... but I've been in that bar.  I spent Valentine's Day there, in fact.

Grimm just set himself up for a primary challenger... acknowledges climate change.

Except the oceans have not risen, Grimm baby. You see, Arctic ice melting does not add water to the oceans. Meanwhile the ice pack on land in Antarctica is growing. Grimm is not the sharpest knife in the drawer now is he? That and his temperament, and certain ethical issues that he finds challenging, leave ...  well he looks pretty hot to me. So all is not lost.

It's a shame that one of the few Republicans that believes in science acts like, well, the average Staten Islander.

Torie, the melting Greenland ice sheet and expanding effects of temperature on water volume say hi.

Talking Points Memo says he's about to be indicted for some campaign finance related crime, so I guess that's why he felt free to speak up.

Yes, NOAA agrees.

It is no coincidence that the bulk of the federal funded buyouts post Sandy are in Staten Island. Many communities simply need to be re-zoned because they are not sustainable in the long term.

I dunno, having to threaten to do so rather than just doing it would be cooler.

OK, even moi makes mistakes. Who knew? So how much have the oceans risen so far, and what is the projection, inch by inch, decade by decade, for say the next 40 years?  We might as well get right to the bottom of all of where we want to go without all that time wasting foreplay. I I think I read that the Antarctica icepack is growing, so that would be an offset, no? And how much do water molecules expand when they get a tad hotter. How much in inch play, is available for play there?

Yes, iirc the Antarctic icepack did increase recently but the global trend lines are all going up. As with this past winter, there will be variance and different impacts. However, as pointed out in the UN climate report from a couple of weeks ago there are some serious challenges ahead.  These are serious life safety and societal issues.  The raw figures of the rise does not seem impressive and there are disagrrements over the extent but it does not take a large increase to have dire consequences- particularly coupled with storm surges.  To appeal to your economic minded side the global costs of damage, insurance and re-insurance from floods is increasing exponentially.
Here is a decent bulleted summary of the issues:  http://www.globalgreen.org/articles/global/95

I wish I werent so darned tired so I could explain this better, but the current approach is to look more toward green resilient methods that help us adapt to the changes since the old, grey hard infrastructure approach will simply not be able to hold back the tide. There isnt enough concrete or money to build floodwalls required.  We have been working with the Dutch on efforts here in New York to come up with innovative solutions.  Within the next few weeks HUD Secretary Donovan should be announcing the winners of The Rebuild by Design competition based on this very concept. This allotment comes from the Sandy appropriations and all indications are that the project(s) will be in billions in funding.
