No poll necessary.  Just discuss it.

I'm rather surprised that so many of these groups are concentrated in the NJ/DE/Philly area, but on the other hand I guess that's to be expected given the high population density.

Nuts of this kind are found everywhere, there's no real geographic pattern to be found.

No shock that bigger states/population centers have more hate groups.

But congrats to ND and HI!

When people make maps like this using raw numbers rather than per capita numbers, it just makes me get really irritated with liberal arts majors. And I say that as someone who was a liberal arts major.

Shows the danger of racism in even the anti-racist NE.

It's only trying to identify them. It's not saying any area is particularly bad for hate groups on the basis of raw numbers. I don't see the problem with the map here.

Yes, the point of the map is not to wag the finger of liberal shaming.

Yes, racism exists everywhere. Population density really dictates the concentration of these things, not politics and stereotypes.

The evidence presented contradicts your wonderful splurge of deep truths.

The "hate groups" in my city are a Nation of Islam congregation and a Catholic publishing house that reprints Distributist texts.

I, too, get really miffed about thematic maps that really just show population density, and was all set to agree- but actually clicking on the link, this isn't a great example of that problem.  The way the data points are laid out, and the use of icons to show the different categories, makes the presentation something more illustrative, I think. It kinda-sorta sidesteps that pitfall.

I'd consider it accurate, except that there are very few "hate groups" on this list that aren't white supremacist, which seriously biases the results.
