Is it reasonable to say that Bill Halter is pretty much done with Arkansas politics?  I mean, I like him, but I think he realized last summer that he's just too liberal for the state - even for the Democrats.  I think the fact that he's not running for anything this cycle says that he's retiring, or at least waiting for some law firm or political lobby to tap him for a job.

Yep. It's a shame he rose so late.

Most likely, though last summer there was buzz that he'd try and run strongly in the 2nd to set him up against Boozman in '16. He's too liberal, Blue Dogs remain in complete control. Unless Jerry knows something we don't...

You can never be too liberal for a state.

Yeah, I wish the True Leftists would put their money where their mouth is. If the key to electoral dominance is True Leftism, please demonstrate and show us all the error of our ways.

If you are using liberal in the correct sense, I suppose so, but if you are using it in the contemporary meaning then, well, lol....

That's why so many prominent liberals have risen to fame in places like Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho, right? lol

The fact that Minnick even got elected sorta undermines your argument Tongue

My point is, you're using elections from more than thirty years ago to justify running True Leftists in dark red states.  Walt Minnick only served that one term because he was a fairly well-known Democrat in a small state running in a very pro-Democrat year.

Yes, the "Mormon triangle" (as I like to call it) used to be somewhat competitive for state Democrats, but now it's not.  As a supporter of the 50-state strategy, I wish Democrats would contest them, but you can't just run any hardline liberal and expect to do well in those areas.

Also, it should be noted Idaho was historically less Mormon, and the panhandle had something of a working class tradition- perhaps tied to mining?
