Nutmeg, so I assume it was 1972 when it was moved to a four-year term ?
There was a constitutional amendment in 1972 that allowed governors to serve consecutive terms. I can look for more information, but I would suspect that this change to terms/term limits occurred at the same time.
From the state constitution:
Article 8,
Section 8. State superintendent of public instruction
Section 8. There shall be a State Superintendent of Public
Instruction, whose method of selection, tenure, duties and
compensation shall be prescribed by law.
(History: As Amended November 7, 1972. The schedule adopted under the 1972
amendment to Article 8, Section 8. was stricken out by the November 6,
1984, amendment).
But I don't see anything here about terms...
