Oh god, I can't imagine anything worse than my town being swamped by bad-hairstyled, blazer-with-striped-tie-and-chinos uniformed fatties.  Our regular tourists are bad enough as it is.

Well, it is a city of low culture. What is it -- Places Rated once described it as a city of a million with only eight public libraries, and no good college.

lol wut.  When was that written?  Twenty years ago?

Yes.

Vegas would be more fun and it's more of a battleground state than Missouri now. Actually, without the Reid machine, it would be very hard for Democrats to reorganize there while Missouri is on its way out as a battleground.

Looks like the Colorado GOP is putting in a bid to host the Republican convention in Denver 2016.

Chicago might be interested as well:

Denver's not a bad option.  Colorado is by no means out of reach for the Republicans.

KC is the safer choice, but I'd go with Vegas. Massive conventions are an industry there, it's a state Republicans want to compete in, and they have a reasonably popular Governor.

If they are wanting to get killed, Chicago is their best choice.

Not only is the murder rate extremely high in Chicago, but Illinois is not going Republican anytime soon.  It is one of the strongest Democratic states in the country.

Is there any evidence that the site of the convention has an impact on which way the state goes in the general election?

Probably not, but it generally doesn't hurt much, at least from what I can gather.  I'll defer to the requested evidence though.

This is blatant ignorance.

Yes. The option for Republicans wanting to be killed is Newark, not Chicago.

Kansas City has a muder rate of 22.6 per 100,000 people.  Chicago 18.5, not even in the top ten. KC's assault rate is nearly double Chicago's.
