I see a half dozen or so in my community and a similar number for Gadsen flags. In the case of the former it is worth bearing in mind that the majority of people in my town were not born in Montana and among those who were many have family lines going back to the South - which was one of three major sources of migrant folk who populated the state back when it was still just a territory.

As for other controversial flags, when I first moved into the area back in the '90s it was not unheard of to happen upon Nazi flags with their traditionally red backgrounds turned green. However that seemed to stop years ago.

American flags are very common, in contrast, and it is a bit odd not to be in line of sight of at least one of them when in suburban areas or passing through unincorporated neighborhoods elsewhere in the valley. A lot of Marine Corps veterans seem to like flying their military branch's flag as well, which I mention only because I never see vets from the Army, Navy, or Coast Guard do the same. Canadian flags are common due to the proximity to British Columbia and Alberta (we get visitors).

I see a few here and there, but not that many.

There has to be an interesting story behind that.

No but I saw a few driving through rural WV last weekend.

I wonder how many West Virginians understand the circumstances that led to their state's creation?

Not many. They'd die if they knew their ancestors were a part of the Union. Lol.

I imagine so. One possibility is that it was tied to a local radio station owner who also happened to be a neo-Nazi activist (the broadcast site had one of the flags I mentioned). He got in trouble with the IRS over tax evasion and lost the station if I recall. Swastikas still show up as graffiti at times but between that and Aryan Nation groups getting disbanded in nearby northern Idaho I suppose the white supremacists, Nazi-sympathizers, and so on in these parts may be less organized now.

Maybe a couple bumper stickers. Otherwise no. I'm sure I could go up to Mid-Del or maybe even just Moore and find some pretty easily though. I notice a few more when in DFW, but that doesn't begin to compare to Port Aransas, which I'm amused to see mentioned already. I don't know what that's all about.

No, western Oregon is uber-liberal and eastern Oregon is extreme conservative, but not southern conservatism thankfully. That kind of surprises me considering Breckenridge's success here in 1860.

I saw one once near Santa Cruz. Maybe it was ironic.

There are far more of them in west-central Minnesota than up in northwest Montana, at least in my experience there. They've also got anti-abortion billboards on I-94, which is way beyond anything the religious right has mustered in my town. Be glad you live where you do in MN, BRTD! xD

Never.  Husker flags coming out the whazoo, more Blackshirts flags than American flags (on people's homes or cars, not overall).

Well, it's part of the state flag, so there's that.

As far as just rebel flags (not Mississippi flags), I might see them a couple times a week on bumper stickers, but you have to go out into rural areas to see people flying one, so not that often.
