The recent Washington Post story on the many health care sign-ups on "Ky-Connect" notes a Breathitt County voter saying "I'm going to become a Democrat" or words to that effect.  The 2008-2012 Republican percentage increase in Breathitt County from 53.10 to 66.25, resulting in a 25.80 percentage point Republican margin gain -- one of the highest in the US outside the Top Ten.  Prior to 2008, Breathitt between 1860 and 2004 voted Republican only in 1908.

Wonder if health care sign ups in rural Kentucky will reverse the Republican trend -- even in Jackson and Owsley counties, two that have never voted Democratic.

If what you're saying is true, although it is [very] unlikely, I have to wonder what margins the Democrats will win Elliot County.

McCain got 57% in a terrible year for the GOP. This will help, but Kentucky must be a looooonnngg term project.

Kentuckians are Democrats by nature and in outlook, but the problem is that they have a different definition of what it means to be a Democrat than does the national Democratic Party. Tongue

is this what Republicans are actually worried about? They've spent years demonizing the ACA and trying to repeal it, but then when people actually sign up for healthcare for the first time and receive coverage they'll wonder why those monsters tried so hard to keep them uninsured. It could be a longterm backlash for the GOP.
