Basically, we're talking about importing seasonal workers to work on farms. Should we legalize those who have been here for a few years but are still here illegally?

Your title and your question are not synonymous.  Yes, we need immigrant labor for our farms, but we do not need guest workers.  Guest worker programs both here and in other countries have almost always led to the workers being exploited.  I don't want Americans to be exploiting guest workers and the only safe way to do that is to not have a guest worker program.

These people are free to come and go though and are paid well. They should even be allowed to participate in social security and Medicaid. If they do come here as guest workers, then they should be granted citizenship too if they prefer. We could help them build a whole new life here.

If there is a path to citizenship, then it isn't a guest worker program but simply ordinary immigration.  Most guest worker programs offer limited opportunities, if any, to seek another employer once here, which many employers use to take advantage of guest workers in their employ.

So you're saying they're oppressed? Not if we offer a path to citizenship for them and treat them well. Have you ever been around guest workers. They're very happy to be here and in a much better place than they were before where they were basically enslaved to the government. No one suppresses anyone here.
