i guess in its truest form it means working a 16 hour shift.  but i dont think most folks are working 16 hours when they say they are working a 'double'

i guess in the restaurant business it means working lunch and supper.

For me it'd usually be 13 hours; at most it'd be 14 hours, barring something really weird.

I define it as 2 in the pink, 1 in the stink. (RIP, kingofthebenchpress)

I've never heard that euphemism before - I usually say 'spit roast'.

Mostly, doing lunch AND dinner in the restaurant business.  Extends to chefs, servers, hosts, managers, busboys, valets... anybody at the restaurant toiling.

Obviously, no one should EVER have to work one without requesting to do so.  Alas, they get away with it.

8 AM - 11 PM shift with a one hour break interlude. I used to pull these doubles back to back on weekends when I was a waiter at Denny's a year ago. I made pretty good money, but damn it took a lot out of me.
