We agree on few social issues, but that's about it. We don't even agree on pets, considering that I'm a dog person. Tongue

We differ in several areas: foreign policy, the death penalty, religion, and above all, the economy.  However, I think my time with him in Atlasia showed us that we agree on more issues than we think.

We're pretty similar in almost all broad-strokes respects--anti-war left-wing mainline Protestants committed to both our political views and our churches--but Scott's more liberal than I am, whereas I'm more comfortable with socialist ideas about the distribution of wealth and resources and reject a lot of culturally or historiographically 'progressive' attitudes. While we both seek out churches that are politically involved, he seems to seek out ones that involve themselves in political activism as part of larger left-liberal coalitions whereas I seek out ones that try to dissolve politics back into the framework of Christian theology.

We share a lot in common as far as economic and foreign policy attitudes are concerned. We are, more or less, anti-war socialists, but we disagree most of all on societal issues concerning drug use, prostitution, and the like, where I take a far less conservative line.

I think we share a lot in common in terms of how we view the world. We're both pro-union protectionists and social liberals. I think he goes a bit further than I do economically to the left, and I think in terms of personality he's a bit more fierce about it all than I am, but I think the differences are minor.

Our social stances are close, but economically, we are far apart.

I think Jerry and I's differences come a lot from tone and, I assume, foreign policy. Kind of in a similar bubble, though I think I am way more liberal on social issues and a lot more fiscally conservative.

I like most of his economic views, and his views on drugs. On foreign policy I believe I probably have more restraint, when it comes to the big red button than him. Wink

Very similar on economics; we're both moderate centre-rightists. Socially we are totally different, especially in attitudes (as opposed to policies), I am extremely socially conservative and he is quite socially liberal. I haven't talked to Matt much about his specific positions so I can't comment much more than that.

We're extremely different, naturally, when it comes to social/moral issues. I'm not sure on economics, I'm certainly more leftist but the gap is probably smaller.

I find Hash's passion for regionalism to be confusing and disappointing, primarily because  my experience as someone living in the United States has been that devolving things to smaller levels of government is a surefire recipe for inefficiency, injustice, and "race-to-the-bottom" type regulatory shopping that makes everyone worse off.

Aside from that one gaping difference, we seem to be very similar in ideology and emphasis for most other issues.

We agree on most nearly everything outside of energy/climate change.  The main disagreements are more about style than substance.

Disagree with him on climate change, obviously. Otherwise, I get the sense that we fairly similar- both quite left-wing, but very pragmatic and willing to work within the system.
