http://theadvocate.com/home/6580728-125/gays-in-baton-rouge-arrested

"The July 18 arrest is among at least a dozen cases since 2011 in which a Sheriff’s Office task force used the unenforceable law to ensnare men who merely discussed or agreed to have consensual sex with an undercover agent, an investigation by The Advocate has found."

So the Sheriff's office is ensnaring men for breaking a law that used to exist?

People like this sheriff and Ken Cuccinelli are such perverts. They need to know what's going on in the bedroom of every gay person in their jurisdiction and do their best to publicly humiliate them for their own sick gain.

Normally I'm ok with something if it infuriates liberals, but I'm not sure this time.

I wonder if Jindal or Vitter will defend this sheriff.

This is why unconstitutional laws need to be repealed.  Even when SCOTUS says you can't do it, some moronic sheriff will think he can.

Shouldn't this give rise to a 1983 action for deprivation of civil rights under color of law?

I don't support these arrests, but surely these gay dudes could, in 2013, find a less objectionable place to score hookups than a public park. Seriously.

The article doesn't say that the gay men were doing anything more than talking to another man.  Is it objectionable for two men to talk to each other in a public place?

And surely the cops could, in 2013, find a less objectionable place to "fight crime".  It's entrapment and nothing more... these guys didn't necessarily come looking for sex.  The cop propositioned them.

No, but generally these stings have a purpose beyond just 'harassing gays' -- and typically, it's to keep dudes from having sex in public parks that families might otherwise use. And believe me, there are still gays (esp. older gays) out there who really like having sex in public parks or highway rest stops.

Fine, but that's doesn't justify arresting innocent people.  If that's a problem, they should arrest people having sex in public parks and not innocent people.

Also, if Southerners treated gay people with decency and respect, there wouldn't be so many people looking for sex in public parks.

Yeah.. if this was the only case of harrassment of gays.. and Louisiana was known as an open minded, accepting place where gays had equal treatment... this might not even be a big deal.

Don't let your SoCal gay privilege cloud your judgment.

No, that's not reasonable, for two reasons - in such benighted hellholes as Baton Rouge, there is a dearth of gay bars, and secondly, cruising in parks is a big thrill for some people.  I wish we straights could do it. Cry

Opponents of gay rights are in such bad straits that they have resorted to pretending that it's the past now.

I assure you, I thought cruising for public sex to be inappropriate long before I moved to California.

The problem is that you presume to know what kind of prospects older gay men in Baton Rouge, Louisiana have based on your own personal experience.

What the police are doing is flat out wrong.  Period.  Playing the moderate hero only makes you look either insulated and privileged, or just callous to the plight of others.
