Continuing on from last week. https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=176246.0

Here are last weeks results:

Brian Schweitzer (MT)          (18.8%)
John Hickenlooper (CO)         (14.6%)
Mark Warner (VA)       (13.9%)
Julian Castro (TX)         (10.4%)
Martin O'Malley (MD)         (9.7%)

Tammy Baldwin (WI)       (7.6%)
Deval Patrick (MA)      (6.3%)
Elizabeth Warren (MA)      (6.3%)
Cory Booker (NJ)         (4.9%)
Howard Dean (VT)         (4.9%)
Al Franken (MN)         (2.8%)

Also I noticed that in the first poll (The one I didn't make but based mine off of) that Tim Kaine was forgotten. I decided to include him here in this poll, to give him a chance.

In this poll, it will run for a week, and then the top candidates will move on to the next round. You can only vote for 3 candidates in this poll.

In this thread, talk about the relative strengths and weakness of these 6 candidates.

My post: I'm surprised Patrick and Warren didn't get more votes, and also that Julian Castro made this poll.

If I had to rank these candidates:
1. Hickenlooper
2. O'Malley
3. Kaine
4. Warner
5. Schweitzer
6. Castro

3 Governors, 2 Senators and former Governors, and 1 Mayor. I think the preference is for someone outside of Washington.

Write-in: Mary Landrieu, if she holds on in '14.  Otherwise Michelle Lujan Grisham might be an interesting choice.

My ranking:

1. Castro
2. Warner
3. O'Malley
4. Hickenlooper
5. Kaine
6. Schweitzer

With Castro as VP, Hillary is secured winning the election by a 99.99% certainty, mind you. Without him, it'll be reduced to about 99%.

Warren, Booker, Franken and Gillibrand are desperately missed from the list btw. Kaine is not, really. He isn't even popular in his home state - how on earth could he win the nation then? Warner is just as popular as Hillary among Virginia moderates and Republicans, however Kaine is only very popular among the very liberal electorate, which still doesn't make up a huge share.

Again:

Other:

In addition to her other qualifications (click the link on the picture), it doesn't hurt that she was a Clinton loyalist until the very end when Hillary Clinton ended her campaign in June 2008.

Idk about Castro, I see him as not experienced enough for vp. I can see Clinton/Castro as being analogous to McCain/Palin, with an older presidential candidate who is seen as the party's best hope, running with a vice presidential pick who may be considered too new or "out there."

Clinton doesn't really need a hail mary pick the way McCain did in 2008. I think the main factor will be: "Who will reinforce my message." And because Clinton will be (amazingly) out of Washington for several years, I think her message will be something like (this is a horrible slogan but this is what i have) "Let's go to Washington and work together to fix this." And I just think a Governor can accentuate that message better than a Senator.

Only thing she has to worry about is if that Governor can hold their own, and to have good knowledge of foreign policy.

What qualification does Castro have to be President of the United States if The Unspeakable were to happen?

Yes. If Hillary Clinton is inaugurated as the 45th President on January 20, 2017, and becomes unable to discharge her duties as Commander in Chief on January 21, 2017, what qualifications does Julian Castro possess that would enable him to act as leader of the free world, aside from being a mayor?

^He was elected Vice President in a national election.

I only voted Castro and Hickenlooper because the options for this poll are boring

So was Dan Quayle, while I believe Castro is more qualified the argument of elected in a national election concerns me.

Agreed. I'm no Dan Quayle fan, but I even think that he is more qualified than Castro. At least Quayle was elected and served in a statewide office prior to becoming VP.

I know, I'm just buggin' ya. I think the only other qualification he has is that he, y'know, went to college. Lol. If he turned out to be an idiot or incompetent it could become a liability a la Palin in 08. I don't think he has to have won a statewide election. Say Arne Duncan resigns January 2014, and Castro were nominated for that post. That'd give him more credibility, though it wouldn't help with his lack of foreign policy experience.

She will in all likelihood pick Terry McAuliffe. He's been in the Clinton's pocket for 20 years.

We've already had Barack Hussein Obama, so why not?

The results here are very close, I may include the top 4 instead of top 3 for the next round.

Carlos Danger we should do this series of polls for Joe Biden too. Since he's the second most likely nominee.
