For me:

* universal health insurance incl. dental (is mandatory here in our "Socialist hellhole") Tongue

* car insurance (the mandatory liability insurance + a semi-comprehensive coverage (I downgraded it about a year ago from full-comprehensive coverage because my car is now already 4 years old and I now park in a garage, so hailstorm-damages doesn't warrant a much higher insurance fee anymore)

* legal protection insurance

* accident insurance

* household insurance

* travel accident insurance (via my credit card)

* pension insurance/unemployment insurance (automatically, when you are employed)

* dismissal pay insurance (ca 1% of your monthly wage is deducted automatically and invested with interest in a company or state managed account, in the case you quit your job/are fired then you can get the dismissal pay)

Universal health insurance
"Supplemental' health insurance to cover things the Canadian health care system won't pay for (dental, eyes, drugs etc.)
Unemployment insurance
My parents took out life insurance policies on my behalf.

Personally, I have health insurance, but I think that's about it.  My family has household, fire, health, life, and car insurance (I think).

College student about to do student teaching. I'm still eligible to be on my dad's health insurance (he's a USW member) until I'm 26, because Obamacare. Tongue

I have a car, and for the summer I'm living at home. I'll be moving out after my last semester is finished and I (hopefully) am able to land a job somewhere.

Yep, I insure a few with a laundry list of policies with high limits, though probably not as high as those in OC, CA.

You should be ok, I imagine the teachers' job market is better in Kentucky than Canada. Canadian teachers make 25%-100% more than American ones, and the resulting oversupply is really starting to show.
