I probably prefer being 15 minutes from civilization as opposed to having it shoved in my face. I like roads with few cars on them. That said, I don't really live in a "rural" community. I guess "exurban" (not that I know what that word means) works, though farms are littered throughout my general area and one is right next to my subdivision's "common area" (area behind the houses that are owned by no one in particular).

Actually, only Jimbob is truly rural people... unless of course Maggie-Sue's people are from somewhere abouts where she lives now originally.

So what about Carla, nth generation farming family (youngest of 6 children), touring quite a bit the world after high school,  finishing college (social psychology) in Lübeck, to return to the family house in order to see after her disabled mother. Her husband, born three villages away (they both met in high school) is Head of IT with a Hamburg-based shipping line. Her elder brother returned as well to the village - following several rounds of spin-offs and outsourcing, he lost his programming job in Hamburg and is now working free-lance from the parental house. All actual people from the village (600 inhabitants, five dairy farms) I am living in. Rural?
