And a woman at that: http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/california-gop-leader-ousted-over-rape-remarks

Keep in mind the vote to get rid of her was only 84-78.

California has some of the most right-wing Republicans anywhere, they are very extreme, so this is not a surprising margin at all.

Motion to put a "no talking about rape" clause in the GOP platform?

I guess the "California Republican Assembly" is the only Assembly in California that Republicans will ever control.

This is what happens when you gerrymander for incumbency.

Right now with the districts being much less gerrymandered for the parties, and the top two system in place, you would hope the GOP gets less extreme. We shall see. It must be said that California Democrats are almost just as extreme as the Republicans, again because of gerrymandering.

Republicans are more tightly packed throughout the state, you can look at the district maps and see that it doesn't really take gerrymandering to get heavily GOP seats in some parts of the state.  Democrats have more moderates in the legislature right now because they won a few seats with low PVIs last year, Republicans won less of those.

I don't really understand the purpose of these comments.

Weird how making excuses for rape has become a thing among strong anti-abortion types.  I wonder who will be the first to chime in with "incest isn't the end of the world."

Why doesn't someone in Utah say something like this? We need a win here.

Republicans... what are you trying to prove with this stuff?!  I just don't get it... there's no point to this beyond being offensive.  Are you trying to say liberal values will not be pushed onto you or something?

Flabbergasting.

It is rather weird. I know plenty of pro-life people, but I've only ever heard these rape comments from elected Republican politicians. It's completely the wrong way to think about the issue, not to mention, as I stated above, factually inaccurate and a cancer to the cause.

Oh, come on!!!

Republicans can do better than that.

Like "rape is the will of God" or "Jesus send you a rapist as a miracle".

I guess you have to be a pretty insane type of pro-life to not only be pro-life, but abandon a normal career to run for elected office in defense of pro-life.
