The two situations aren't really comparable.  McDonnell's likely sunk because he's being buried in an ethics cloud, which comes on top of his upsetting conservatives with the transportation tax.

Jindal's having problems pushing his agenda, sure, and is no longer popular in Louisiana, but that doesn't mean that he's retreating from a likely presidential run.  He's still visiting NH next week, for example.  In any case, there are plenty of cases in which candidates run for president without being super popular in their home state.  Like, for example, virtually the entire 2012 GOP primary field. (slight exaggeration)

McDonnell would've been a fine candidate back in 2011, but the guy has been straight toast ever since the probes stuff. Jindal was never a great candidate mainly because of the laughable way he speaks.
