Some people argue that Australia is the country most similar to the US. They have dollars, English, and a federal system with states. Both countries have a real patchwork of laws on various issues, such as marriage rights for gays. They even have a Senate with equal members for each state and 6 year terms, and a House of Representatives that is proportional to population.

I think the biggest difference between the two is Australia is a much more intergrated society, whereas in the US the poor tend to live in one area they're quite spread out across Australia as are the wealthy - thought you do have clusters of both.

Jajajajaja.

No.

Being personally a Kiwi in soul I "love/hate" Australians "my way", but comparing them with "Americans" is just stupid and wrong.

Or do you believe that Australians have a Tea Party and Far-right militias and things like that?

"Most similar" ≠ "Practically the same".  If you don't think Australia is the most similar country to the US, which countries do you think are more similar to the US than Australia is.

But they clearly are comparable, superficially. We're young countries who committed some atrocities towards the natives, for another example. You yourself offer no alternatives, nor even a reason to differ. I've lived in both for years and I think they have many similarities. There are also stark differences. Think of it like this instead: New York and California are very different States, but are both clearly American.

Alberta, Canada is the most similar to the US. They don't even have an "accent" up there. Smiley

But Alberta isn't country! The country is Canada, and there is a massive difference in the east.

Lawyers make the rules. I'm right, and you're wrong. Close case maybe between Ontario and Aussieland. Quebec should be its own country.

Canadian regions sometimes have more in common with their American counterparts. As a Maritimer I feel like I have more in common with New England than say Vancouver or Montreal.

So, huh, exactly like the US then?
