I mean, it makes sense... it's what the mail (generally) does.  The amount of fuel used doesn't fluctuate whether someone is wide or skinny.  It changes based on how much mass you're trying to defy gravity with.

It makes sense, that they have this rule. At some point US airlines will probably get it too, if too many of your customers are overweight its difficult to make a profit without charging after weight.
