Rush Limbaugh admitted on his radio show Wednesday that he thinks the nationwide legalization of gay marriage is inevitable.

Limbaugh was reacting to the Supreme Court hearings on Prop 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act. He said that opponents of gay marriage are being told that "the country is changing and you better get with it and understand it. The genie is not getting put back in the bottle."

"And I think that's right," Limbaugh declared. "I don't care what this court does with this particular ruling, Proposition 8. I think the inertia is clearly moving in the direction that there is going to be gay marriage at some point nationwide."

So, Rush Limbaugh thinks nationwide Gay Marriage is inevitable... and he's OK with that.

...When exactly did we enter into bizarro world?!? Not that I'm complaining. Cheesy

Okay, this is getting bonkers. A case enters the Supreme Court and suddenly an entire nation has a simultaneous psychological shift of values. Not that I'm complaining, of course.

Wonder if we can expect any further Republican pols to come out for it this week? I mean, if even Limbaugh's laid down his arms...

Yet during the same program he also attacked O'Reilly for supporting SSM and saying opponents only argument is to 'thump the bible':

...is he kidding? No, seriously, is he literally joking? Bible-thumpers(and gullible conspiracy freaks) are the only people who watch Fox.

Nothing will do this country more good than an election cycle where all 435 House seats and 33 Senate seats have a Christian right third party taking 25% of the vote away from the Republican candidate.

Has he ever been strongly against gay marriage?  I mean... it's one thing to oppose it, but many people who oppose it just do so because it was a ballot issue; they wouldn't be going out and campaigning against it - just voting against it when given the chance.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Rush Limbaugh has ridiculed same-sex marriage on his show in the past. It could have been cynical or heart-felt, but the distinction doesn't matter.

He's not endorsing gay marriage. He's just saying it's inevitable. So, okay, great that he's admitting long-term defeat, but don't read into it too much. (And it's also not inconsistent for him to call out O'Reilly for support gay marriage, though of course he says inconsistent things all the time.)

It was a genuine question.  I honestly don't know the answer.

I know he's had Elton John at his most recent wedding.

But yeah, Limbaugh is basically saying "it's over, our side lost, it's inevitable, but it's not the end of the world, it's going to be OK, let's move on"
