I ask this because well I had this discussion with my family yesterday (my exciting friday night lol) and everyone who was 20 plus said they thought 18 year old males were still boys, which I found weird.

So I thought I would ask on here, incase they are just being biased to me because they still see me as a boy and as you people don't know me I thought I would get more honest answers.

I want your personal opinion, it's not about politics or voting or anything like that just age, attitude etc.

Thanks if you reply Smiley

It totally depends on the fellow in question, but generally speaking, no.

Hmmm.....I'd have to go with yes, myself.  I do consider an 18 year old male to be a boy or a man.  He's certainly not a girl or a woman.....discounting some exceptional circumstances.

Depends on the context. In general though, I would consider an 18 year old boy to be a man.

(And yeah, on the fellow in question as well, I suppose.)

False dichotomy in most areas of consideration.  But.. a 'man' for what very very little that is worth.

I'm about to to turn 18, and I definitely do not consider myself an adult in any way.

I turned eighteen four months ago, and I still feel like more of a boy than a man. Tongue

It's an arbitrary age for consent and civil adulthood.  If we go by brain development, 25 seems to be the better age for full physical maturity.  If we go by sexual development, then it's probably younger... but generally 18 year olds are in between boys and men.  But manhood has to start some time, and 18 is as good an age as any.

A boy. Just as 18 year old females are not yet women.

A young (read inexperienced) man, but a man. What happens is that when one is between about 18 and 22 or so one has to make a lot of decisions that one is not necessarily wise enough to make. And that's where he or she better have good role models and sincere advisors. And, of course, be willing to listen to them.

I'm 19 and I would still classify myself as a kid more then I would an adult, simply due to my dependency on my parents still.

I grew up too fast which hindered my maturing.  I considered myself an adult at 14-15.  Even now, I call 16-17 year old's young adults and on the same token 23-25 year old's kids.  It all depends on the person, but I generally consider one to be an adult at 16-17 years old when they're legally old enough to be tried as an adult in an American court of law.  For example, driving responsibly requires adult decisions to be made (not joy riding, obeying all traffic laws, etc).  So, to answer the question, 18 years old males are men to me.  On the same token, 18 year old females are women to me.

A majority of people don't tend to mature fully until during or near the end of the college years. I'm 18 and about to graduate high school and even I think I have a little ways to go. The law might say we're men, but often the way we act doesn't show it.

Also, of course, the only difference between men and boys is the size of their feet and the price of their toys.

I hate sweeping, general proclamations like these in particular. Stupid, arbitrary categorizations regarding maturity in relation to age are misguided and almost always inaccurate.

Aaah, but they can stay on their parents health insurance until they are 26.
