With the current trends, I'd say Manchin changes his position at some point in his current term.  Any change on this shouldn't hurt him in six years.

Wonder if Capito will come out for it after(almost inevitably) winning Rockefeller's seat. She's damn near to the left of Manchin.

I doubt Manchin will change his position on this, at least not for a very very long time.

Well, it's not like I know a spectacular amount about West Virginia and its politicians. All I know of Capito is that she's openly pro-choice and was apparently deadly likely to face a Senate primary for a while. Tongue

Capito is nominally pro-choice, but don't get carried away with it. West Virginia is basically Arkansas, don't give it too much credit.

Fair enough, I suppose. Like I said, I wouldn't know.

Surprised this didn't come sooner with retirement and all. You'd think he'd go all the way after criticizing the coal industry.

I predict Manchin will be the last major Democratic politician to oppose gay marriage, changing his position sometime in the 2030s.

By that point, he'll have probably keeled over in his seat. Tongue

McCaskill, Warner, Begich, Tester AND Rocky?  Lol, Democratic senators are evolving like something in a science fiction movie.

Personally, I prefer calling Capito "not as pro-life as most Republicans." It feels more accurate.
