Here was me thinking Daniel Deronda was Israel's raison d'être.

While it influenced the Zionist movement, the fact is, without the Holocaust, there would be no State of Israel today. There also likely would not be a State of Israel if Hitler had had the time to do a more thorough job.  It is easy to see why some Evangelicals see the hand of God in the Holocaust.  Just the right amount of destruction was caused to lead to the creation of the State of Israel.
