Bachmann also expressed concern over Obama and Secretary Of State Hillary Clinton, noting she thinks the two could take "a big step" toward limiting freedom of speech.

"This is game over... the Founders made this the First Amendment because they understood this is our most sacred right, our right to speak, our right to practice our faith the way that we want to, the right to publish what we want to publish, the right to assemble and talk about whatever we want to talk about," Bachmann said. "That’s freedom, that’s the essence of freedom, that’s the First Amendment, and that is what UN Resolution 16/18 which Hillary Clinton signed, presumably with the affirmation of President Obama, and that’s the first step in a big step for taking away from you and me and all of your listeners our right of free speech... but even more importantly, it will empower the Islamist to use that against us."

She won 50-49, by 3000 votes in R+8 district. Terrible for a 3-term incumbent.
And she got 80% in her primary this year, which is quite bad.

That just makes her a genius in a perverse sort of way. Elections, unlike most things in life, are binary events.  Either you win or you don't. The goal of any politician is to fly as close to the sun as possible (this means something different to each one) without falling into the sea. Whether her motives are sincere or not is impossible to judge. She clearly gets some sort of pleasure out of making statements that would be infracted for trolling here. And she has facede zero consequences. Underestimate Bachmann at your peril.

She is. But her constituency goes far beyond one district, and not simply to the fat-cats who buy most Republican politicians. Millions of Americans believe her dreadful ideology and wish that someone like she could be their Representative. Those people love her as if she were a sports star or screen idol whose popularity transcends regional affiliation.

If the great FDR could say "We have nothing to fear but Fear itself", that gutter pol has nothing to offer but fear. Fear brings out the worst in people, especially in politics. Vile cause cannot rely upon wild sadism that never has a purpose other than the satisfaction of a perverse superego; it needs fear as a defense of the indefensible. When people are full of fear they can then tolerate the lynch mob or even the death squad and acquiesce in the idea that there must be some conspiracy in place against the God-like Leader who butchers people who confess to being parts of demonic conspiracies.

Islam-bashing is as vile as Jew-baiting in its day, and there is a veritable industry of hatred directed at Islam as there was in Germany against the Jews. God Help Us if the Islam-bashing goes from silly like Jew-baiting in Germany in the 1920s to official as in Germany the middle-to-late 1930s. German Jews were the model minority before 1933 when they became helpless pariahs.
