McDonnell is great at politics, but Thune starts off as the establishment frontrunner. I voted Thune because the establsihment candidate generally wins in GOP primaries, but McDonnell could pull an upset.

McDonnell becomes the establishment candidate and easily wins.

Out of that list, I'd think it would be between McDonnell, Jindal, and Haley. Probably McDonnell, who just seems more competent than those two.

Thune and Portman would just be more Pawlenty's. Walker and Pence don't seem to have the right temperament. Santorum won't do well against a stronger field. And Ayotte isn't that good.

Jindal I think due to the establishment support, although McDonnell or Thune could challenge too.

There seems to be a disagreement on who the establishment candidate would be. Tongue I'm obviously not part of the inner-circle of the Republican party, but I consider myself to be a pretty standard "Establishment Republican". Most of my Romney friends have a very favorable opinion of McDonnell, and have some bitterness towards Jindal for endorsing Perry in the primary.

That's a pretty weak field, but out of those I think Walker takes it because he would generate the most Republican enthusiasm.

I don't understand the hype about Jindal; his State of the Union response back in 2009 was weak and he's done nothing of significance in Louisiana. He's all style, no substance.

Not including Bush, Christie, Cruz, Daniels, Huckabee, Huntsman, Martinez, Paul, Rice, Rubio, Ryan, Sandoval.
Removing that many candidates basically makes the whole exercise pointless. A poll excluding Bush, Rubio, Ryan and Christie (and perhaps Huntsman) makes more sense.

I would argue that including that many candidates makes the exercise pointless.  No actual primary is going to include that many major candidates, and it's hard to choose one when there are that many.

Thune and McDonnell fight it out, with Thune coming out on top.

And I think we all know the Republican Party is not going to nominate Santorum for anything at any time.
