If he gets State, who do you want/think will get the seat? Will there be a special election or an appointment?

Is he really going to go through with this and risk handing the seat over to Republicans? It's like a repeat of Obama appointing the Democratic governors from Arizona and Kansas to his cabinet.

Appointment, followed by a special election, as per new law.

I don't think there's much difference if Republicans have 45 seats or 46, to be honest, so I doubt it's a make or break.

If Scott Brown runs, I bet he would win. I don't think any other Republican would, though. That man has been campaigning almost nonstop since late 2009.

Eh, I'm not convinced Democrats would let Scott Brown win again. That was a perfect storm against an unremarkable candidate, to say the least. He'd have a better shot at governor.

So who are the possible Democrats? Any chance Deval runs himself?

Deval? No. He technically could (there are no term limits), but in his last reelection cycle he pretty much promised this was his last term.

Also, I find it funny you say "an unremarkable candidate" since she is the most likely candidate to get the nod from the dems to run for governor.

As for Tisei, his strengths are really in the Northeast. He also took the Tierney defeat pretty personally (he just conceded, he didn't actually call Tierney, and he has refused all interviews after alleging voter intimidation in Lynn--considering he did worse in Lynn than flipping Hudak who knows). I think he is going for it again, he came within .7 percent, and next time won't be a presidential election.

For Governor, I wouldn't be surprised to see Brown or Baker, but Brown doesn't really have any executive experience. As for the senate seat, the only reason I don't think Brown would do it, is if he wins, he would need so again (4 elections just to try for ONE full term is kinda stressing).

Couldn't we just have the Massachusetts Democrats go back to gubernatorial appointments for Senate vacancies?

I have a hard time seeing a Republican win again a Senate seat in Massachusetts. It is pretty clear Scott Brown was a good candidate, and he might still be, but what you guys should remember is that Matha Coakley was a complete disaster. If the democrats nominate someone half-competent, even Scott Brown will have little chance IMO.

Tisei is finished in MA-06.  The scandal will be long forgotten by 2014.  Either that or Tierney retires and another Democrat easily holds the seat.

I hear Patrick's got his eye on Attorney General and apparently he's having dinner with the Obama's (AG interview maybe?). I think we should just go ahead and give it to Joe Kennedy III. That's a 60-30 landslide based on his name alone. Vickie could try for it too.

^Would there be a special election if Patrick became AG? I have no clue how that's handled on the gubernatorial level.

One can only hope he stays in the Senate until the next opportunity to peacefully retire.
