Romney got out in from of it within a matter of hours.  A minor plus and only political junkies are associating this with Romney.

To be quite fair, my mom is pro-choice and she thought for a week that Todd Akin was Mitt Romney's running mate. Though that wasn't actually enough to convince her to vote for Obama again.

At the same time, Sister Soulja didn't sink Clinton. And Todd Akin didn't sink Romney. Of course, neither of them were helped, but I don't think anyone voted on Soulja or will vote on Akin. Almost everyone of people screaming that Clinton wanted to kill white people or that Romney wants to rape people was already a hardcore partisan hack.

It was a minor plus for both.

No.  There's one critical difference between the two.  You had to be a political junkie to know that SIster Soulja had been active in Democratic politics beforehand or ever to notice that detail afterward.   Whereas Akin is quite clearly a Republican.  That's why its a very small minus for the GOP.

Romney got out in from of it within a matter of hoursdays.  A minor plus and only political junkies are associating this with Romney.

Fixed.

My problem, there wasn't enough celebrities or musical entertainment at the RNC.  Need more diverse when it comes to that sort of thing.

I think we already recruited every single celebrity and musician willing to perform at the RNC.

JJ's spin machine has gone into overdrive!

I don't think it's spin, it's drivel. A constant, relentless, monotonous barrage of drivel.

The worst political 'analysis' I've read on this forum and that's saying something.

Sorry, Romney came out within one day of Akin's comments of saying that they were wrong and callled on him to withdraw within 36 hours.

This is a big issue with Akin, and potentially in MO.  Romney's numbers seem to have improved in MO since then.

PPP is not even showing a huge shift against Akin.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Senate_election_in_Missouri,_2012

Mason Dixon did, in the immediate aftermath.

2) The AIDS/gay/straight issue that popped up and the issue in MO of the "legitimate rape" the week before the convention that shifted the focus temporarily to where Romney absolutely did not want it to go and conservatives may have been turned off by his skittish remarks

It gave Romney a "Sista Soldier moment."  That helped a bit.

Not really.  I doubt most swing voters had any idea that people actually thought what Akin does about how women can't get pregnant from rape.  Those who did think such things were likely already Republican leaning and those who did are more likely to doubt they want to be part of a party that has such people in it.  By itself it was a very small negative for Romney.  The main harm it did was to cause the GOP to lose several campaigning days by being off message.

Well, I'm reasonably sure most Clinton supporters were not listening to rap music or advocating shooting white people either.  Smiley  It gave both a chance for both to look mainstream, without really doing anything.

I think Clint Eastwood looked older than Ron Paul, more confused than Rick Perry, and more awkward than Kramer from Seinfeld.  His speech would make for an awesome remix though.  You have a modern, tricked out version that Fistful of Dollars theme playing in the background.  HOT-  HOT-  HOT Doggin' it.  HOT Doggin' it.  Make my day.  Afghanistan?  Nobody checked-  Nobody checked-  Nobody checked with the Russians.  the Russians.  Make my day.  I'm sorry.  I'm sorry.  I-  I-  I'm sorry.  Make my day.  Mental Masochists.  Mental Masochists.  M M M M M M M M Mental Masochists.  Make my day.

Ah, well, he was earnest.  Anyway, I can't see how his speech could possibly hurt Romney.

No, another classic Link moment.  Romney has actually improved in MO, not that he was losing it.  Smiley
