Iceland is such a goddamn epic country.

Edit: Oh, that's the U.S. embassy.  Did someone hack it or something?

Is this part of Uncle Sam's massive world tour where he has sex with all the other nations' mascots?

I don't think our embassies should push agendas like that, even if the agenda is right. They really should only deal with actual foreign affairs and travel/immigration issues.

In fairness, this was in honor of Iceland's national Gay Pride Day, and Iceland is, IIRC, the only country in the world to have a gay leader so it's relevant to the Icelanders.

Elio Di Rupo is gay, so there are two now.

Atheist too.  Double whammy.

Iceland though, is still the first in the modern world to have an openly LGBT head of government.

That's much less surprising in the European context.

True, considering how Hitler Jr. Geert Wilders is openly non-religious.

Bird love must be pretty awesome, flying around in the air while having sex. If only humans could fly. Sad

No. Each nation has a right to set its own rights. While I support gay marriage, there is no "right" to it, nor is there one for heterosexual marriage. Human Rights should be life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

One could argue that marriage falls under "the pursuit of happiness".

I think so. And if government was to get out of marriage entirely, homosexuals could pursue happiness by finding a church that would marry them.

But things are hardly ever that convenient. I'm with ya, but I don't see that happening soon.

The Anglican Church is in favor of gay marriage. As is my church, and many of its kind. It is hard to find, but not non existant.

*Episcopal. It is in fact the branch of the Anglican Communion in the United States, but there's also a splinter sect that's very conservative and calls itself 'Anglican'. I think it's supported by some Anglican provinces in places like southern South America. There are also Episcopal parishes and dioceses that won't use the new rite for same-sex unions.

If we want to add to that, I think than the United Church of Canada allows gay marriage, too.

Interspecies gay bird rights, to be specific.
