Anyway, I thought I would inform of you peeps of my happenings.. no doubt after spending a long time in suspense wondering what was it that I was going to be doing.

Anyway, I've been accepted this week to study an MA at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands. The MA is in "History of European Expansion and Globalization". There are one or two things of paperwork that still need to be done, but it looks very much like that in September I'll be off the island once more.

I'm not sure totally sure what to expect to be honest. Any Dutch posters here? But honestly, I really can't wait.

Yay!

Good luck, Gully. Smiley

Lots of Republican's from "fly over country" go to Africa and other similar places all the time...and they don't just bring bibles.  They bring hammers, nails, knowledge, food and, of course, THE WORD OF GOD.  The people they help love it.  Their kids get a new school (or medical center or whatever), and all they have to do is act like they care about this Jesus guy whitey keeps talking about.  My brother-in-law just got back from doing that very thing in Malawi.

BushOK, bring an ass ton of ink pens.  People in the third world love them.

Sorry, BushOK, but I don't think you'll experience much of the Netherlands that way. That said AMS is quite a nice airport.

I know I won't experience much of the Netherlands as I will be too focused on getting to the next gate and getting ready to board.

I was just commenting that I will at least be inside the nation's borders, even if only in the aiport.

Not sure if you actually will be, even, actually. Since you're only transfering from one non-Schengen country (USA) to another (Kenya), I don't think you have to go through Dutch immigration. Not entirely sure, though, my trips are always EU to USA and back.

The problem is when they start taking whitey and his Jesus guy friend seriously...

Anyway, Thanks everybody!

Congratulations on continuing the trend of our Irish members fleeing the country, Gully. Tongue

Although if I recall correctly you were living in Spain (?) anyway, so consider my point moot.

Best of luck! Smiley

Yeah I was for over a year but I had to return after I lost my job in a bizarre reserve-emigration. Now I'm living in CAAARRKKKK which I have to say does sometimes seem awfully foreign to me.

From my experience in world travels re: flying from Country A to Country C via Country B....you never have to go through immigration in the intermediate country if you're staying in the airport.  However, you do typically have to go through security again in some fashion, which usually means dumping any liquids you brought with you from the last airport, which is really annoying.

Of course, I presume that you're still counted as being in the country's borders from the perspective of law enforcement.  Bushie should study up on Dutch laws to see what he can or can't do while in that airport.  Maybe it would be a good time to try pot.  Wink

The only bad thing about pot is one ounce of it in Nairobi can get you locked up for several years or sentenced to years of hard labor and malnourishment according to travel.state.gov, so I would have to dump it out before I board for NBO!!

Leiden is your typical University Town, I gather (never been there, but know people who have). It's within the Randstad, though, so you're quite literally in the heart of the Netherlands.

Have a nice time!
