Assume that on Super Tuesday, Santorum only wins OK and barely wins TN.  Gingrich wins only GA.

Wednesday, Santorum suspends his campaign, and endorses Gingrich.

What will be the short and long term effect?  KS is 3/10; MO is 3/17.

Short + Long term effect would be Romney win in both KS and MO, and the nomination would be over.

Not going to happen though.

I don't think he will secede that quickly.

I can't see him staying in if he only wins OK and has a poor showing in TN.  It's possible that he could hurt Gingrich in KS, AL and MS, throwing those to Romney, especially if Romney surges.

Only way Santorum even considers dropping out after tonight is if Romney wins everywhere except Oklahoma and Georgia, and if that's the case he'll either give no endorsement or endorse Romney since at that point who the nominee will be will actually be inevitable.

I want Santorum to drop out after Super Tuesday, but I have a feeling he's going to drag this out.

Well, with this question, assume he does.

I wish this would happen, because it would kill both their campaigns most likely.  Paul could go VP with Romney and focus the attack on Obama.

It won't make a difference. Neither of the two can win the nomination now.

Ehh, Santorum has a chance.  We'll see after the next 24 hours or so.

The best he can hope for at this point is a contested convention, and he knows that would be disastrous for Republicans.

It may not, but what if it does.  There is a fair chance that Santorum will lose to TN.
