Rick Santorum is a serious candidate for the Republican nomination.

Which means, by extension, that the Republican Party is a serious candidate for obliteration.

If he's a nominee, you'll still vote for him in November.

If Santorum is the one, My vote for Obama will be fun.  GUARANTEED!

You'd betray the party of Lincoln? Shame.

The problem is, Kalwejt, that Santorum takes the party of Lincoln and turns it into the party of Landon.

Now you're cruelly biased. Santorum would certainly outperform Landon (but not in ME and VT).

Really?

Rick Santorum is going to turn the GOP into a bunch of "Me-Too!" Democrats?

Well then, I guess it makes sense why you would go ahead and support Obama.

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

I think he means in terms of electoral success, not policy positions or levels of personal respectability, in which case turning the GOP into the party of Landon would arguably be a better thing than not.

This is reality.

I mean, like, wtf? Srsly, this is messed up.

It's a good idea to reflect on the strangeness of the whole situation.

Fwiw, Al, I never considered him a serious candidate for the Republican nomination, and still don't, because, well, you have to be able to win the Republican nomination to be considered a serious candidate for same in my book.
