.....does he simply want to take down Romney at all costs regardless of the consequences for the GOP in November?

Or does he believe he is doing the right thing by trying to bring down Romney?

Please vote and discuss.

I don't believe these two options are mutually exclusive.

The Grinch only cares about stroking his ego.
The Grinch wants to steal Christmas by destroying the GOP's chances.
The Grinch will celebrate by having another affair.

Given the spat between Romney and Gingrich has gotten personal, I am leaning 'no'.  And if Gingrich proves instrumental in Romney's ultimate defeat in November, that will only go to show the unpredictable power of so-called 'super PACs' (and by extension, the Citizens United vs. FEC Supreme Court decision that made their existence possible), and how much of a double-sided sword they really are.  It seems clear Romney (through his affiliated Super PACs) overdid it in his vicious take-down of Newt Gingrich when he was riding high early last month.

He's bent on taking down Romney regardless of what it means for the party's chances in November. That should be fairly obvious by now.

We're talking about a guy who once shut down the government because he was unhappy with the seat he got on an airplane. Of course he would wreck his party's chances over a petty personal dispute (though in fairness, Obama would destroy Romney over Bain anyway, so if anything it may be helping Romney to get it out there earlier rather than waiting for the fall).

Yeah, that too. But as a total hypothetical, if Newt was told that this would somehow never come out about Romney during the General unless he mentioned it now, I absolutely believe he'd still use it.

I voted no, but it's really that he cares more about himself than the GOP.  He doesn't disregard the GOP's chances in November, they're just second fiddle.

It's quite clear what he wants to do.

He wants everyone to regret not being smart enough to get behind him... because obviously he's the smartest man that ever lived!!!

But seriously, I agree that he does care, but it's secondary to his ego.

He cares more about purity of the GOP nominee rather than electability (whether that's a good long-term view or not is a whole 'nother debate) so I voted no.

This man is the biggest hypocrite I know. He whines when Romney throws some attacks on him in Iowa, then turns around and focuses his entire campaign on trying to destroy Mitt Romney. He should be ashamed and embarrassed by the way he's acting...of course, he is way to arrogant to ever realize he's wrong.
