Let's assume that Ron Paul amasses enough delegates that he denies the frontrunner a majority of the delegates. What then, will persuade Paul to give the frontrunner his delegates? The Vice-Presidential nomination? A change in the front-runner's platform?

Well the only way this could happen is if there were three (or more) candidates with a large number of delegates (including Paul). Then presumably the front runner would work something out with the non-Paul candidate(s) and ignore Paul

The journey is the goal, so nothing, except a speaking slot at the RNC.

The Presidency and nothing else. And no one will give the nomination to him.

Paul would force the convention to pick a more Libertarian platform.

Basically, this. Paul will never be the nominee and he will never have a power-broking strength either. Literally every other candidate would unite to deny him any influence at the convention. If he plays nice he might give a speech in Tampa, and that's what he's really in for - fame and money.

Paul will have to make a deal with the nominee well before the convention if he is to be able to make a deal. His trump card is that if doesn't get what he wants, he goes and runs as a Libertarian, and he has to make that decision by May at the latest IIRC.

He's not going to get denied a speaking slot if he doesn't bolt the party, but he won't have the leverage to get more than that once the path to running as a Libertarian is past.

I agree that the main leverage Paul has is not any delegates he wins, but the threat of running as third party.

Excellent.  Given that it is more than likely that the GOP will not condescend to make any concessions to him, we will get to see the drama at the Libertarian National Convention as well as Gary Johnson battles it out with Ron Paul for the nomination.

What he never received in the last election: the right to speak to the convention.
