Obama will relatively improve most in the "Clinton South", where Tea Partiers will be less excited and the kneejerk reaction to a Muslim furriner will have subsided. Given that at least one state tends to swing the opposite direction than the rest of the country (every election since 1976), I predict Obama will improve in states like Arkansas and West Virginia, though he won't come close to taking either.

Looks about right. It does not make much sense to do a little bit better in the Deep South at the expense of competing in New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and who knows where else...
