Are you guys embarrassed by your party's Primary season so far?  Why or why not?

I am embarrassed by the campaigns of Perry, Gingrich to a lesser extent, but especially Cain. He truly embraces the theme: Ignorance is bliss.

Romney is the only competent candidate and the only one who can win!

I wish you guys had more competent people out there. Would be scary to see one of these guys in office.

As a former Republican my general sense of the party and its candidates can be very accurately summed up as...

Me too.

I believe in a healthy , vibrant ,strong, competitive  two party system.  I dont think letting one party have a monopoly on the presidency is healthy. Unfortunately the republican field is making them look like buffoons.

Newt Gingrich, give me a break, yes Republicans  that's what you need , another old, pudgy, white southern male , recycled from the mid 1990's.

Yes. It makes me even more mad that many of the potential candidates took a pass at running and left us with a clown show, with the exception of Romney and Huntsman.

Yes.

I like to view the primary as a job interview...and the field isn't faring too well overall.

Mitt and Newt truthfully aren't looking too bad, they just have bad resumes.

We could do worse. Its not a bad field in the end, with people like Ron Paul, Jon Huntsman, Mitt Romney (that was hard to type), Johnson, and Roemer being the sane, and Bachmann, Santorum, Perry, and Cain being insane..I cant figure out where Newt belongs now.

I don't think we have the best crop of candidates, but I'm certainly not embarrassed.  The '08 Dems and '08 GOPs were worse, in my opinion.

I would like a candidate who is both a reader and a leader and yes that is getting harder to find these days.

Yes. This should be a three man race- Romney, Paul, and Huntsman. Instead we have wackos. Paul is a wacko, sure, but he actually knows what he's talking about.

The lack of Haley Barbour and Mitch Daniels is pretty depressing, although one would not run if the other did. Huckabee should have made a break for it. Christie's absence was expected though sad, I'm juts glad we dont have to endure Palin's platitude soundbites day in and day out

I've taken to viewing the Republicans' political fortunes lately as the political equivalent of a premature birth. They've managed to get propped up to the public by the news media and talk radio and somehow become electorally viable despite obviously being completely unprepared to be back in power in any way, shape, or form.

So far, aside from Mitt Romney, Republican frontrunners have been Michelle Bachmann, Donald Trump, Rick Perry, Herman Cain, and now Newt Gingrich. Yeah; if I was a Republican I'd be embarrassed.

Somehow, though, due to the stupidity and fickle nature of the American public, combined with the pervasiveness and ratings obsessed nature of our media, they've managed to sidestep the traditional period of a stint in electoral wilderness before "growing up" as a party and managing to recapture the public's confidence, as would normally be the case.

The story here isn't how embarrassing the Republicans are, it's how embarrassing this country is compared to the rest of the world.

That's the spirit! People aren't smart enough to vote Democratic, clearly.

I have a feeling by "rest of the world" you are referring explicitly to western Europe and a few other countries in the anglosphere.  I recommend you count your blessings.  At least we have a representative republican structure of some sort.

Yes, yes, I'm not destitute in Africa. I get it. I'm sorry that I meant to say "we're idiots compared to the rest of the developed world." That makes it way better. I loathe this idea that, just because we're America, we're somehow immune to being a stupid country, or somehow immune to having a hopelessly paralyzed and dysfunctional system of government.

Frankly I find it insulting to the rest of the world to think that we're inherently above all that. If the last few years have proved anything, it's that we're not.

It may surprise you, but I want the Republicans to be taken seriously. To be strong and to be genuine in governing. I want your party to grow up and stop with these ridiculous tactics and indulging the crazies, to stop playing to the lowest common denominator. Our country is better and healthier with (at least) two serious parties interested in governing, and when necessary, governing together.

But your party has quite literally abdicated practically all serious governing responsibility. I recall in 2006, in the campaign to unseat the Republicans in congress, Democrats often used the "Do-Nothing Congress" line. Now we're back to 2010, Republicans in power again, and we've returned to basically the exact situation we were in then. A "do-nothing" congress. Except now it's basically turned into a point of pride.

I don't consider Americans stupid for voting for a right-wing party. I consider Americans stupid for voting for a right-wing party that just doesn't give a f**k. Nearly all other right-wing parties of the first world are nowhere near as irresponsible (not to mention openly hostile to the notion of doing anything in Government) as the Republican Party. That simply cannot be debated.

Well actually if I were you I'd be extremely happy you don't live in Europe today because the level of $hit that is about to be slung at them courtesy of their idiot politicians will make the US look a f**king Utopia.

Also point to me all of the great conservative legislation the Dems were willing to agree to and compromise about between 2006 and 2008. I mean they didn't even really keep their promises on the super easy "6 for 06" platform.

I would say that the difference in the coming situation between the US(who occassionally votes in a "stupid" GOP(as you put it)) and how absolutely retarded European governments have been I'd say its very easily debatable, and the notion that your holding the stronger hand is kind of funny.

P.S. I always found it weird how Dems call the American people stupid when they don't vote their way. I never once blamed the American people for voting in Barack Obama. W. failed to perform and its perfectly reasonable for them to vote out the party that didn't deliver, but that cuts the same way when we are talking about Obama's reelection. I somehow assume that if and when Obama is voted out you'll be calling them "stupid" again to show your contempt for the average American citizen.
