I've always wondered how a civil war would be fought in an atomic age.

Basically, I see the future going several ways-

The least likely reasonable scenarios-
- OWS eventually suceeds in a far-left coup via 1917 Russia.
- The Tea Party eventually does a 1933 Germany-style coup.

More likely, but still remote-
- US goes the way of the Soviet Union in the late 80s.
- US goes the way of the 4th and 5th Century Roman Empire  (It basically delegates itself out of existence as it becomes harder and harder to govern)

The most likely is that this culture war will probably eventually have a winner when there is a strong enough leader to effectively govern America by letting the losers have some autonomy over their affairs. If the baggers win, we could see an America that is very 1920sish, but with gays winning equality and issues like drugs, abortion and genetic expirementation only being prosecuted when they are "open and notorious". Basically, the Middle Class will simply be reborn in "God's Blind Spot", if you will.

Not without a world wide economic collapse.

We're on the verge of one...

There are still several hurdles we'd have to jump to get to that point....granted once we started going we'd probably run through them quickly.

let's see: a bunch of NRA red-blooded Americans against a bunch of anti-gun Socialists...wouldn't be much of a fight, but it would be fun.

Tell that to the Russian White Army in 1922... though Franco really tossed the salad of those liberals in Spain 15 years later. Then again, he had a bit more help than the other team.

That's why we have WMDs. - Which brings another possibility. There could simply be a real-life Jerhico. I honestly believe it will either be that or somehow Dan has a crystal ball. Either way, by the end of this 20-30 year timeline, we will see it and have been through it.
