I'm afraid I would have to refuse any honorable station that did not include in the title the term 'potentate' (or at the very least plenipotentiary).  Does the title bestowed for the position of 'Moderator' include this term?

Its not trolling Offie, it is educational, as well as just plain effective communication.  You see, when the reader is guffawing, the oxygen permeates his brain-cells, and he gets the point without having it belaboured to him in tiresome fashion.

Here's a test for you - a standard to which you can aspire:  never make a post unless you're sure that someone, perhaps many, will enjoy reading it.  Do any of your posts meet that standard?  Many of mine to.. I like to think the majority.

Sorry, I reject that standard. I know that (unfortunately) my criticism of you is disapproved of here, for example, but I'll keep doing it because it has to be said, regardless of who's listening.

That includes this post; I'm not sure that anyone will enjoy reading it (I am pretty sure, in fact, that most won't), but it needs to be said anyway, and I don't care if people are going to close their eyes to it.

When I read Opebo's post about boiling missionaries in pots, I immediately recognized it as a joke. I didn't think it was funny, not becuase I was offended, but because I just didn't think it was funny.

I am wondering though, if a rightist had joked about boiling a leftist group in pots, would it be taken the same way? What if it was directed at atheists? Or gays? Or environmentalists? I'd imagine the result might not be quite as "funny". Of course, I have no intention of finding out because I have a dry enough sense of humor not to find either funny. JMHO of course.

Its a bit less funny given that leftists actually have a history of being murdered.  The boiling was really quite a rarity - most missionaries got away with their crimes.
