An idea I've been formulating in my head, it will be something along the lines of "5 most Badass Senators." I've already decided that Daniel Inouye will be number 1, and that the list will also include John McCain, Bernie Sanders, and Lisa Murkowski. The 5th I'm still deciding, and I'd also have to practice writing Cracked-style (hint: lots of cursing, a few memes here and there, and cock jokes galore). I'd send it in as a guest writer, I suppose.

How about Jim Webb for number five?

I picked Bill Nelson.

Considering what he did during the war, yes he is most certainly is. And as for the idea of writing an article, definitely a good idea - in these times we have loads of people with writing skills who can't find a job (myself included). If you write a few pieces and actually get somewhere, it can only help your resume and keep your skills sharp even if no one accepts your stuff. Good luck(!)

If you write it and submit it, even if it doesn't get put up on the site, I would love to read it.

Good luck!

If you're going to stick with that topic, I wouldn't limit it to current Senators, because there's just not enough history. Inouye I can understand, and John McCain I suppose though it wouldn't be too interesting to read considering everybody already knows his story. But Murkowski? Sanders? Nelson?? There's just not enough stuff there to make it worthy of a full article, unless you reach back and include some epic badasses from yesteryear.

Good luck though.

You are quite the Internet liberal. I'm also interested in reading it and hope that you pass it along for some peer review here before submission.

The few articles I read on that site did not stick to 20th century history; instead the focus is on American history from Confederation to the Gilded Age, when divisions in society were starker and politicians had the aristocratic stench. It helps that shifting cultural norms make anyone from before the 19th century seem alien. Here's an example.

Yeah, Cracked aren't going to consider Lisa Murkowski a badass for losing a primary and then winning as a write-in.  Nobody would, except political nerds like us.  Inouye, McCain and Nelson are better examples.  Max Cleland too.  But I'm sure there are other examples (that don't just include epic war stories) if you delve further back in time, and maybe raid the House too.

It seems like rather thin gruel for an attempted redux of "Profiles in Courage," that book Sorensen wrote that Kennedy put his name on.

I've gone with:

Sam Houston
John McCain
John Glenn
Robert Byrd
Daniel Inouye

As long as Inouye is number one, we're golden.

After reading Inouye's wikipedia page, hell yes he is the most badass senator out there.

I'm not familiar with every Senator's wartime injuries, but if we're talking former senators, might Bob Kerrey be in the running? Bob Dole? Not sure how heroic they were, but they both lost limbs or use of their limbs in combat (I think).
