Does anyone ever watch the forum in the 'Google Translate' modus? I just tried it and the results were really weird. Everybody immediately sounds 50% less intelligent, even when their posts survive in a grammatically correct form.

Is Legalize "English?"  It certainly isn't Anglo Saxon English. While English may be about 55% Teutonic, and maybe 35%-40% French Norman in origin, with both the spellings and pronunciations all mixed up, in "Legalize," one can come perhaps close to flipping those percentages. Tongue

The balance of the origin of our words is from all over the planet. I love our language.  It's like a sponge!  Smiley

Considering that the point of legalese is to obfuscate rather than communicate, does it count as a language?

Precision sometimes confuses the noisome crowd.  Tongue

Never tried. It would probably be a nightmare.

Just for laughs, I do sometimes look through the online translation modus, and no matter which language is used, the results are pretty bad.  There are only so many useful heuristics you can put in online translation programs...

Well, now I did. English to German.

Particular oddities on the start page:
"Election What-ifs?" is basically translated to "Election-ifs What?"
"other Statewide Elections" = "state arrival and departures information"

For some reason, Herman Cain is changed to "Herman Kain". Tongue  (well, it's the German version of Cain, as in "Cain and Abel").

Sometimes I use Google Translate, but only when I have a bad day and I need something to smile Cheesy. The translations are worse than my English and more than curious.
