As stated in the other thread, no. For all the tons of Christian hipsters, punks, hardcore kids and indie rockers I've met, none have been Catholic.

I live in San Francisco, so between the huge number of Catholic adherents & the historical strength of counter-culture movements here it's rather inevitable. In fact, I have family that squares fairly well with this.

I recall Libs complaining about how strip clubs take advantage of and degrade women, arguing about certain issues from a "morality" standpoint, make some not so open minded comments about gays, and at times voice support for a closed borders policy.  I don't see how those views would be something a "counter-culture" type would endorse.
A vote for McGovern doesn't automatically make one a "counter culture" person, and a majority of Libertas rhetoric (which was borderline reactionary) makes me doubt that if he had lived in the 1960's and 1970's he would feel comfortable with the American counter culture.

As for actual encounters with Catholic counter-culture types, yes I've had a lot of them.  Hell, half the counter culture kids at my school were apathetic Catholics.

Uh, I have been quite active in the "scene" since I was 16. That's over 10 years now.

I doubt Libertas owns a record player, just for starters.

Yes, but I've never met any who claimed to be anything beyond a purely nominal Catholic. Of course it's not like I go around at shows questioning people about their religion.

Well, it all depends on what you mean by counter culture, doesn't it? Like are you talking about music and fashion or something more substantive. For instance, you have the catholic worker movement, Fr. Drinan, and the Berrigans with the Plowshares anti war and anti nuclear protests.

I listen to counter-culture music, however, had I been there I most likely would've despised the hippies and would've identified mostly with Nixon's "Silent Majority". However, the counter-culture did make some great music.

No you listen to the mainstream. You have musical taste closer to my parents than any modern day counter-culture person.

This is what modern day counter-culture music is like:

Ah, there's my point! You can't stand real modern day counter-culture music and I've never met any Catholic who can. Imagine if you went to church and started blasting this really loud. Do you think anyone in that church would enjoy it?

Eh, my mom is Catholic & she likes plenty of extreme metal. I was listening to this earlier today & she commented positively on it. While it's not your cup of tea by any means, it's both modern & counterculture.

You know I just found these lyrics from a Christian hardcore band and they kind of underscore what I was wondering. I'm a little shocked actually, I know most Christians in the scene aren't big fans of Catholicism or any real organized and hierarchical church in general, but I've never seen anything this blatant or aggressive.

I know a ton of Catholic counter-culture people.  Perhaps Catholicism just isn't popular enough in Minneapolis?
