Dept. of Education breaks down Stockton man's door

12:15 AM, Jun 8, 2011

STOCKTON, CA - Kenneth Wright does not have a criminal record and he had no reason to believe a S.W.A.T team would be breaking down his door at 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

You'd be surprised CARL at the number of federal agencies not engaged in any law enforcement capacity that havel fully armed law enforcement divisions.

would anyone else besides the in Dept of Education have sent a SWAT team to collect a debt?  There's a reason not to be in debt to those who hold a monopoly of force.  There couldn't be any more striking illustration of the problem facing people who go in debt to get an education that doesn't lead to getting back the money you put into it. The assumption is often "don't worry it's a loan from the government; they care about your education and they're not out to make a profit."  But this same lack of profit incentive also makes them less willing to make sure that money is well invested to the point that people will be able to pay them back. so in lieu of the profit incentive, they have big guns.

Or it could be an actual criminal investigation.

Your link no longer works.  Looks like they were going after the waste, fraud, and abuse we are always badgering them to go after.

You may owe the federal government that is working on your behalf an apology.

After all the Constitution doesn't give people the right to steal from the government.

It could be. Then again, they would say that, now wouldn't they?

here's the new link:

http://www.news10.net/news/article/141108/2/Questions-surround-feds-raid-of-Stockton-home

unless there was some threat of a violent criminal, there is no reason for these extreme measures.  I mean damn it the person that they were looking for wasn't even living there.

but yeah, anyone criticizing the feds for this totally owes them an apology.

They were way over the line, and this "OIG" which I never even heard of, should be abolished, along with the rest of the Dept. of Education. Whats next? The Agriculture Department breaking down my door for over boiling Potatoes?!?!

Meh... fraud is pretty much the same as boiling potatoes.  And you've really never heard of departments having an OIG?
