Certain people will insist that libertarians must support Democrats due to their shared "social liberalism" (and I'll just make this post under the assumption this is a legitimate argument, though it isn't), or else they aren't "real libertarians."  Nevertheless, these exact same people will also often say that they'd rather support Republicans over libertarians, saying that economic issues outweigh social issues for them.  Is there any legitimate argument for this double standard?

Misplaced priorities would be my guess.  Then again, I care more about social issues and foreign policy than economics.

libertarians (note the little L) should support Libertarians (note the big L).  libertarians that vote for "the lesser of two evils" aren't helping anything and are part of the problem.

Huh? How could a Democrat show support in a Republican primary? And even if the winner of said GOP primary were libertarian, why would they support them over a Democrat?

Democrats never vote in elections with no Democrats in them.  Libertarians vote in elections without Libertarians all the time.  Their point is still valid.

I consider myself a libertarian and find nobody who represents what I believe in. Not Democrats, who disguise upwards redistribution of wealth as downwards redistribution of wealth. Not Republicans, who have no problem with the centralization of power and authoritarianism as long as it is had on the level of the isolated State. And not Libertarians, who oppose Statist hierarchy while halting their critique at the boundaries of the State itself.

I'd probably say different things in my critiques of the parties, but I essentially agree with this. I typically vote LP, so I can at least be clear of having voted for the clowns in Washington/Sacramento. Then again, the Democrats in the Bay Area are so bad that I sometimes vote GOP just because I imagine that they must be an improvement over what's in office. Also they won't win, so once again I have a clear conscience.
