Obama wins his house election in 2000 thus not having the attention/achievements that led to his nomination for senate in 2004. In his absence, Clinton cruises to nomination.

Romney wins NH due to a serious gaffe by McCain, then Romney receives Crist's support in Florida and wins that. McCain and Giuliani are down for the count, it is now a contest between Romney and Huckabee. Romney wins solidly in most places outside the South from then on on.

With Romney having serious issues in the South with his Mormonism and perceived elitism while Clinton has far more appeal amongst Southern whites then Obama(and blacks are highly supportive of her as well since their has been no Obama to steal their loyalties) she beats him in Georgia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana . She also wins  in Arizona since it's not Romney's home state and Hispanics have gone firmly into the Democratic camp due to Romney's harsher attitude towards immigrants and Clinton's greater popularity among Hispanics then Obama. She almost wins Texas but loses narrowly.
