Please lets get control. I don't want this forum to go pay. That would drive me outof the last civil place I know to have a poltical discussion. This place has really helped me to think intellectually and to lose it and have to pay would be a big disappointment. I can't afford to pay to post messages and I know I have repeatedly said it.

I think the issue of payment is a separate one. This is about fantasy elections, not really the forum as a whole. 2 separate issues, imho.

The issue to me is not about JFK's amusing revolution, but that I think it's become apparent that we simply don't have enough members (or balance of members) to execute everything some of you guys want to do, which includes a full senate and governors and lt. governors -- essentially giving every single person some sort of position. That seems like much more of an issue to me than anything else.

Basically forget that the revolution ever happened, and continue as normal with minor reforms, but no wholesale changes

Get rid of the fantasy government, go back to only elections. Keep the parts of the Constitution that deal with elections

This also sounds like a great idea. To be honest, I don' mind either option.

I will make a list of my proposed reforms later, and no, they won't include making me Supreme Dictator. I am taking this seriously.

I think it's important this thread gets voted on by as many people as possible, to see where the forum stands.

Wow...it's almost tied. And a lot of people seem to say that if their choice doesn't end up being the one that is followed, that they will leave...that's not good. Hopefully we can come to some sort of an amicable compromise here.

I haven't yet made my own personal decision on this, and want to get a few more votes cast before I decide. I'm really torn between choices 1 and 2 myself.

You also have to take into account how the people who voted for 3 and 4 would vote if the options were only 1 and 2.

We can't keep the current government.  Only half the Senate is occupied, and two of those members have switched parties from the one they were elected as.  Don't pretend the current governmetn has legitimacy here anymore.

We have rules for settling vacant seats....if Senators do not come back or are re-instated, we'll have a special election, or they will be appointed by the Governor.

With a distinct lack of Governors and the fact that a new set of elections will have been needed nearly universally from only a few days into the new Senate term, I think it is time to consider disbanding the Senate and returning to high profile, national campaigns every month with a few rules that everybody respects

Exactly, people keep saying," Oh it will be alright, we have methods for replaceing Senators."

Well, not if you have five open governorships, you don't.

We elected Senators with open governorships before.

So we elect governors and they can choose the new Senators if necessary.  Many of the Governor elections are already scheduled in the next 2-3 weeks.

Just having presidential elections means only three or four people get to run out of almost 80 on this forum.  That seems like a lot less fun than the system we have now.

We had no idea that there was a likelihood that a number would fall vacant so quickly, also the Constitution stipulates that only the Governor can fill an open Regional Senate seat - that could be a while; Of course, it is likely the Constitution will be torn asunder.

Withdrawing my earlier proposal and substituting it with this one...
We'll have a Prez, a VP, a small cabinet (4 or 5 max, INCLUDING press secretaries, advisors and what not), a Senate, a SC, no Governors.
The Constitution will be reformed, but not replaced. The current Senate remains in place for the time being.
We don't forget the Revolution happened; we amnestize the rebels but bear their behaviour in mind...
